چکیده

The quantum magnetic oscillations of electrical sShubnikov–de Haas effectd and thermal conductivities are studied for graphene which represents a distinctive example of planar systems with a linear, Dirac-like spectrum of quasiparticle excitations. We show that if utmost care is taken to separate electron and phonon contributions in the thermal conductivity, the oscillations of electron thermal conductivity ksBd and Lorenz number, LsBd would be observable in the low-field sless than a few teslasd regime.

Measurement of filling factor 5/2 quasiparticle interference with observation of charge e/4 and e/2 period oscillations.

A standing problem in low-dimensional electron systems is the nature of the 5/2 fractional quantum Hall (FQH) state: Its elementary excitations are a focus for both elucidating the state's properties and as candidates in methods to perform topological quantum computation. Interferometric devices may be used to manipulate and measure quantum Hall edge excitations. Here we use a small-area edge s...

Spin Excitations in Localized and Itinerant Magnets

Collective excitations in magnetic materials can be investigated by means of inelastic neutron scattering. We show that this experimental method gives access to the complete spectrum of magnetic fluctuations through the energyand momentum-dependence of the dynamical susceptibility. We focus on the dynamical properties of magnets with localized spin densities and of metals. From such studies, mi...

Topological effects and particle physics analogies beyond the massless Dirac-Weyl fermion in graphene nanorings

Armchair and zigzag edge terminations in planar hexagonal and trigonal graphene nanorings are shown to underlie one-dimensional topological states associated with distinctive energy gaps and patterns (e.g., linear dispersion of the energy of an hexagonal ring with an armchair termination versus parabolic dispersion for a zigzag terminated one) in the bands of the tight-binding spectra as a func...

Quantal Andreev billiards: Density of states oscillations and the spectrum-geometry relationship

Andreev billiards are finite, arbitrarily shaped, normal-state regions, surrounded by superconductor. At energies below the superconducting energy gap, single-quasiparticle excitations are confined to the normal region and its vicinity, the mechanism for confinement being Andreev reflection. Short-wave quantal properties of these excitations, such as the connection between the density of states...

Long-wavelength collective excitations in a two-dimensional spin-polarized electron gas: A phenomenological theory

The dispersion relations of the collective excitations induced in a 2D spin-polarized electron gas are derived within the framework of the Landau-Silin theory applied to a two-component Fermi liquid. The quasiparticle interaction is described by spin-dependent coefficients, which are parametric functions of the initial degree of polarization. The motion of the low-energy excitations satisfies a...
